Goodman achieves carbon neutrality four years ahead of target

Accelerating the scale and timing of its sustainability commitments, global property group, Goodman, has announced it has achieved carbon neutrality for its global operations – four years ahead of its 2025 target.

All regions have played a part in reducing Goodman’s carbon footprint, with Europe and New Zealand already achieving net zero status for their operations and Goodman’s operations in Australia having transitioned to 100% GreenPower, which will dramatically reduce emissions in future years.

In the UK, sites across London, the South East and the Midlands, as well as Goodman’s own sustainability initiatives, have played a key role in achieving the global target ahead of schedule. All new-build UK developments are being delivered with a full rooftop array of solar photovoltaics (PV). At Goodman’s Crossways Commercial Park scheme in Dartford, this equates to a total system of 2,190 kWp across all three units. In addition, work recently began to deliver Purfleet 338, a highly sustainable 338,267 sq ft logistics warehouse featuring roof-mounted solar PV, rainwater harvesting, infrastructure for electric vehicle fleets and smart metering.

Goodman has been progressively reducing its emissions through various green initiatives, including expansion of its rooftop solar installations and accelerating electric vehicle initiatives both within the company’s operations and supporting its employees and customers to take advantage of eco-friendly vehicles. All new Goodman properties worldwide will feature dedicated electric vehicle bays and EV charging.

It will also transition its global vehicle fleet to electric vehicles, with the current Australian fleet of 55 hybrid vehicles to be updated to fully electric vehicles by 2025. Further supporting the growth in electric vehicle usage, Goodman has introduced a £5.4million incentive to assist its 900+ global workforce to also make the switch. In the UK, take up has already reached 25% since the scheme’s launch.

Charles Crossland, Managing Director for the UK at Goodman, said: “As an organisation, we’re proud to have achieved our global carbon neutrality goal four years ahead of target.

“Increasingly, customers require efficient and sustainably designed properties that make a positive contribution towards a more sustainable future. Our goals align with these aspirations, supporting them to minimise the carbon footprint of their operations, as well as reflecting our wider ambition to take profound action on climate change.

“From supporting the transition to electric vehicle fleets, to expanding our rooftop solar installations and minimising construction waste, we’re offsetting environmental impact at every opportunity.”

Greg Goodman, CEO, Goodman Group, said “As providers of essential infrastructure, we realise the importance of our sustainability strategy and we’re proud that our global operations are carbon neutral. Around the world, we have made progressive changes in our strategy and operations to achieve net zero status ahead of our 2025 target.

“Globally, the property sector has a huge and vital role to play in sustainability from the new estates we develop, through to the impact of assisting our customers across our portfolio achieve greener outcomes within their own businesses.”
