Zero Waste Scotland today announced the appointment of Ray Georgeson as the new Head of Resource Management, Waste and Recycling. Joining in July 2021, Ray will play a vital role in the organisation that is accelerating and supporting Scotland’s just transition to zero waste and a circular economy.
In his role, Ray will lead on several programmes pivotal to the company’s core objectives – maximising the value from waste – and supporting the overall ambition of leading Scotland towards using products and resources responsibly. The new Recycling Improvement Fund and work with Scottish Government to set out a clear waste routemap are just some of the key areas of work that Ray will lead a team at Zero Waste Scotland to deliver.
Ray’s career spans a wide variety of roles, from community recycling back in the 1980s; Director roles at Waste Watch and WRAP, through to running his own consultancy. He was awarded the MBE for services to sustainable waste management in 1999.

Ray will be a vital member of the Zero Waste Scotland team as it continues to influence strategies – at local and national level – to keep materials in use for long as possible, reusing wherever we can.
