The UK’s most popular lab-grown diamond jeweller Lily Arkwright shares that it has seen a 10% average year-on-year growth in sales in Sustainable September since 2016, suggesting how the month encourages people to shop more sustainably.

By using lab-grown diamonds, Lily Arkwright’s collection is not only ethically produced but better for the planet. The category has seen significant growth in recent years as shoppers seek more sustainable product options.

In 2021 internal sales data showed an increase in purchases in September compared to the previous month by 15%, a figure which has grown year on year since 2016. As the awareness of Sustainable September is steadily becoming more mainstream each year there is a major shift towards upcycling clothes and slow fashion. In particular, jewellery is making the effort to shift to a more sustainable means of production as more consumers are educated on the positive, sustainable impact of purchasing lab-grown jewellery and engagement rings.

Sustainable September is not the only key event dedicated to raising awareness of sustainable practices and green shopping choices that positively impacts Lily Arkwright sales. International Sustainability Week which takes place in March also helps to generate a buzz around sustainable business and offers an opportunity for consumers to contribute towards reducing the impact of shopping on the environment. Following this event, there was a 38% spike in sales in April at Lily Arkwright as the jewellery company tracks the impact of key environmental initiatives.

Phil Dawson, Co-founder and Managing Director of Lily Arkwright commented: “We predict lab-grown diamonds are only in the early stage of adoption, as shoppers have only recently been giving more consideration to how products are made. There are also connotations of lab diamonds being less valuable which is not the case as every lab diamond Lily Arkwright set is fully certified and accompanied by an industry-standard GIA, IGI or GCAL grading report, including the cut, colour, clarity and carat weight specifications. Shoppers’ interest in buying green has grown in momentum in recent years. Five years ago it was unheard of for luxury brands to consider including lab-grown diamond collections, now it’s almost mainstream.”
