SHIPSTA builds CO2 data into digital freight procurement processes

SHIPSTA, the AI-powered platform transforming logistics procurement, today announced the launch of its sustainable logistics solution ShipstaPLANET. The first-of-its-kind product allows businesses to understand the environmental impact of their logistics and build CO2 emissions data into freight procurement decisions with rapid time to value and no administrative burden.

“Sustainability has risen to the top of the corporate agenda and logistics teams are now in the process of gathering emissions data so they can begin to tackle their carbon footprint,” comments Christian Wilhelm, founder and CEO at SHIPSTA. “Our new product provides instant visibility on emissions data so they can rapidly understand their baseline footprint, incorporate sustainability considerations into freight procurement decisions and ultimately develop an actionable decarbonisation strategy.”

With extreme weather events becoming more frequent and severe, businesses are facing intensifying pressure to reduce carbon emissions and are increasingly making bold pledges to sustainability-related goals. According to a report by the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) and Oxford Net Zero, over a fifth of the world’s largest public companies now have net-zero commitments. Such enterprises are starting to pay particular attention to their value-chain emissions (known as Scope 3), in which logistics plays a critical role.

By incorporating emissions data into SHIPSTA’s automated workflows and AI-driven decisioning tools, ShipstaPLANET enables logistics teams to build sustainability into their freight sourcing and procurement strategy and reduce their carbon footprint – for example by selecting low-carbon carriers and prioritizing lanes that have the lowest carbon footprint – with rapid time to value and no administrative burden. The software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution also provides visibility on carbon emissions at a shipment level and allows businesses to instantly calculate, monitor and report their transport carbon footprint.

The intuitive and easy-to-deploy product also allows logistics teams to closely monitor carbon emissions and deliver regular CO2 emissions reports to internal stakeholders. It enables a rigorous, data-driven approach to identifying CO2 reduction pathways and developing a sustainable logistics strategy that will meet the growing decarbonisation demands from customers, investors and regulators.

“At Holcim we have made sustainability a strategic priority as we rethink how the world builds for people and the planet. With bold ambitions to become a net zero company by 2030, we must scrutinize our transport much more closely and make more sustainable procurement decisions,” Alexander Scheld, Head of Logistics at LafargeHolcim. “Technology will undoubtedly play a critical role in supporting our journey to net zero and we welcome this pioneering approach by SHIPSTA.”

“We are extremely proud to be first-to-market with a solution that allows logistics teams to make greener freight procurement decisions and start their journey to net zero transport,” continues Christian Wilhelm, founder and CEO at SHIPSTA. “By making carbon emissions data visible and actionable, we can drive transformation to sustainable supply chains.”

SHIPSTA’s digital platform connects shippers and carriers to ensure a frictionless procurement process for spot and contract buying, entirely online. The AI-powered platform is used by some of the world’s largest chemicals, pharmaceuticals and automotive companies to respond to market volatility, control freight costs, improve forecasting capabilities and manage risk in the supply chain.
