A newly rebranded South West security firm has committed to replacing its ageing diesel fleet with hybrid vehicles in a move which helps crime detection as well as the environment.

Avonmouth-based S2K – formerly known as Security 2000 – is investing in the new vehicles as it actively looks for ways to reduce its carbon emissions.

As well as the environmental benefit, the technology gives the company an advantage in the detection of crime, as drivers can switch to ‘stealth mode’ when approaching a property.

Richard Gabriel, business unit director at S2K, said: “This investment is all about doing the right thing. It’d be more economical for us to replace our vehicles with newer diesels but going hybrid will reduce our carbon footprint and future-proof our fleet.

“Hybrid technology also means we can switch to electric-only as we approach a premises, meaning our final two minutes of approach are completed in stealth mode.

“Our vehicles are also fitted with CCTV which transmits live to our control room, so our team can park strategically close by and alert the authorities while capturing images of criminals at or leaving a crime scene.”

As part of its rebrand, S2K is developing a mobile app for its customers and staff to complete its transformation to a paperless, fully agile business.

“This is another element of our drive to future-proof the business,” added Richard.

“The app will provide an automated reporting service so we can provide our customers with instant, real-time updates. Plus going paperless is another way to cut our carbon emissions.

“The name Security 2000 sounded dated, and this is now all about a company fit for the 21st century.”

S2K offers high-quality, cost-effective security key holding and alarm response services to Bristol, Avonmouth, Clevedon, Chippenham, Melksham, Trowbridge and Weston-Super-Mare. It signed its first national contracts earlier this year.

In a bid to attract the best staff, S2K has increased pay to well over the real living wage and also offers a guaranteed interview to any former member of the armed forces.
