One of Europe’s leading packaging suppliers, Southgate, has achieved a Silver EcoVadis rating, showcasing its focus on driving sustainability within its operation and the wider industry.

EcoVadis is the world’s most trusted business sustainability rating, measuring corporate social responsibility and sustainable procurement within businesses. The assessor provides a system to allow organisations to evaluate their own and their supply chain’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) levels. It covers 21 CSR indicators across four main themes; Environment, Labour and Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement.

The prestigious rating recognises Southgate’s continued focus on developing innovative, new eco- packaging alternatives, part of its pioneering activity to lead the packaging industry in developing sustainable products. Industry leaders such as Johnson & Johnson, L’Oréal, Nestlé, Schneider Electric, Michelin and BASF are among the more than 55,000 businesses on the EcoVadis network.

Darren Smith, Head of Marketing at Southgate explains why this is such an important achievement for the business: “For our work to be officially recognised by EcoVadis, whose objectives to create a global marketplace where sustainability intelligence influences every business decision align with our own mission and values, is a fantastic achievement.

“We’ve been working hard over the past year to make this happen so to now secure the Silver EcoVadis rating is testament to the dedication of our team, who have been driving forward our focus on creating a more sustainable future within the packaging industry and beyond. It doesn’t stop there though – we’ll be working towards achieving the Gold EcoVadis rating in the near future.”

As an industry leader, Southgate is committed to developing a line of alternative products to significantly reduce packaging waste and plastic content. The packaging firm aims to continue to expand its sustainable range whilst reducing plastic content and increasing user productivity and profitability.

In the past year, Southgate has launched a number of sustainable packaging products from carton sealing, paper mailers and void fill, with plans to have a suite of sustainable options for every product. To showcase its latest sustainable product line, Southgate recently launched its Sustainability E-edition brochure.
