Graceburn: National and international acclaim for zero-waste cheese from Kent

Blackwoods Cheese Company has been recognised nationally with a win at the Great British Food Awards 2021 and internationally at the World Cheese Awards for their unpasteurised handmade cheese. Blackwoods headline cheese Graceburn has been crowned as the winner of the Great British Food award for Flavour Added Cheese and has also taken a bronze in the World Cheese Awards. A soft, creamy cheese, Graceburn is rich in flavour and marinated in cold-pressed rapeseed oil from a local Kent supplier.

“We make Graceburn by hand here in Kent using fresh unpasteurised local milk from a sustainable farm, we are so excited to see this cheese receive recognition from both foodies and fellow cheesemakers” explains David Holton, Managing Director and Head Cheese Maker at Blackwoods Cheese Company.

Highly valued by both locals and chefs alike, Graceburn is also becoming recognised for its zero-waste credentials. The cheese can be enjoyed as part of a cheeseboard or added to salads and recipes, while the oil can also be used in all manner of dishes from roasting vegetables to pasta and sauces. Finally, the versatile glass jar can be washed, recycled or reused.

With consumers becoming ever more conscious of the wider impact of the food we consume, Graceburn ticks all the boxes as a handmade product, supporting artisan makers and British farmers, as well as being packaged with thought and responsibility. “We love the fact that Graceburn is manufactured and stored in glass jars, the cheese looks magnificent in the golden rapeseed oil, and it means we don’t have to be involved in plastic, the glass jars can simply be added to your recycling when finished” says David.

A trio of award-winning varieties

Aside from recent wins at the Great British Food and World Cheese Awards, Graceburn is regularly awarded for its flavour and has an impressive back catalogue of wins, including Best Enhanced Cheese with Savoury Additives in The 2021 Virtual Cheese Awards, 1* for the Truffle and Chipotle & Lemon varieties in the 2020 Great Taste Awards, and Best Cow’s Milk Cheese at the 2019 Artisan Cheese Awards.

With a similar texture to Feta, Graceburn is ideal within salads, as part of canapes or added into warm pasta dishes. The vibrant yellow jars of marinated cheese are available in three different flavours:
