SunCable launches Indonesia’s first ever renewable energy research park

SunCable, a world-leading renewable energy innovator, has launched the first of five Renewable Energy Technology Research Parks in Indonesia.

In partnership with five Indonesian universities, the Research Parks will help build technical capabilities to ensure Indonesia’s future workforce is highly skilled and able to lead the country’s renewable energy transition.

Ground was broken for the first Research Park on Saturday in partnership with Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji (UMRAH), in the Riau Islands province (KEPRI). Students at UMRAH will now be able to focus their research across a range of technologies and configurations that will build their renewable energy knowledge and capabilities.

"We believe the best way to achieve this is through education and knowledge transfer, which will be critical for the next generation of the workforce. Solar will change the global energy landscape, and our Renewable Energy Research Parks, delivered in partnership with leading universities, will help Indonesia become a world leader in this sector."

SunCable is currently developing the Australia-Asia PowerLink (AAPowerLink) – the world’s largest dispatchable renewable energy project to be built in Australia, Indonesia, and Singapore.

The Indonesian subsea transmission system will be one of the largest in the world utilising the latest High Voltage Direct Current technology. A significant proportion of the $24 billion USD project asset value will be based and owned in Indonesia, providing numerous opportunities for Indonesian investors. UMRAH’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Agung Dhamar Syakti, S.Pi., welcomed SunCable’s investment to establish the university’s new Renewable Energy Technology Research Park.

"It will allow us to really build our students' practical knowledge and research into renewable energy, which is one of the world’s most critical sectors. This will ultimately empower our workforce, put us at the forefront of the energy transition and at the epicentre of renewable energy development here in KEPRI.”
